D: When did your interest in interior design first develop?
CGC: I have a degree in journalism and business. At the time I was a writer, mostly for Architects & Graphic Design firms entering competition’s. There was something about their process that was so inclusive and inspiring. I decided to study interior design at Atlanta College of Art, which later became SCAD.
D: This is an amazing time for technology… What has been its’ advantage with interior design?
CGC: The internet has changed so many things. It is easier for people to discern what style they would like to approach based upon the images from our website and it’s reviews. Social media has been key to getting our brand out into the design arena and both the client and we, can ascertain if we would be a synergistic fit to the potential clients project.
D: When meeting a client for the first time, what is the first thing you look for?
CGC: I use the mechanics of a room to determine the maximum use of space when walking into a room and am more spatial/technical. Chris is the visual genius and has great intuition when working with clients. Often we start with a focal point, throwing out collective ideas to grow it into something concrete. The conversation is fused with laughter and colorful dialogue that helps us achieve a collaborative vision with the layering and scrupulous details required to bring a dream into fruition.
D: Do you ever collaborate with other designer’s or artisan’s?
CGC: Our clients are often looking for originals. We love bringing in artisan’s for that one-off chandelier, dining table or chair with COM fabric. Bespoke items go a step further to enhance the design of the room by enhancing the senses. Using Com fabrics is the best! There is an unbelievable collection of fabric options available through designer’s only.
D: Your designs are so original and creative, what inspires you?
CGC: Inspiration is everywhere! There is something narrative about the design process; the way it builds, the story it tells. By using form and design, artists are creating experiences not just canvas anymore. The same can be said of furniture designs. The design world cannot exist singularly if it is to be great design; it is a collaboration of art, fashion and architecture.
